The Combined Historical Scenario for War in the Pacific

Map
< Previous Contents Next >

There are two versions of map used for the CHS. The first is Andrew Brown's (Standard) WitP map. The second is based on Andrew Brown's map but has been modified to include two additional "off map" areas: The Middle East and Panama. This map is called the Extended map. There is no version of the CHS created for the official WitP maps, and there are currently no plans to make such a scenario available (there are just too many compromises in accuracy that would have to be made to go back to the official map).

Extended Map

The extended CHS map has been created specifically for the CHS scenario. It is an experimental map, and it is not yet known how it will affect full length games. It may be that after extensive playtesting the map will be modified further, or even dropped altogether.

The map includes two "off map" areas that extend the strategic scope of the game:

  1. The Middle East:
This area represents the British bases that were present in the Middle East and Eastern and Southern Africa. It is used as a reinforcement location for most Commonwealth forces, as a source of supply and oil, and as a withdrawal area for British ships. The bases here replace Karachi in all of these roles. Bombay is retained as a secondary reinforcement location.

  2. Panama:
This area represents the US bases that were present in Panama and the Galapagos Islands. It is used as a reinforcement location for some US forces that historically arrived in the theatre via the Panama Canal, and as a minor source of supply. Allied shipping can also be sent to the South Pacific via this area. The US West Coast remains as the major source of supplies and reinforcements.

Additional Bases

A number of new bases have been added to the CHS, over and above those already added in Andrew Brown's converted scenarios. These include bases in Occupied and Non-occupied China, and, for the extended map, in the two "off map" areas. Details of these bases are as follows:
