The Combined Historical Scenario for War in the Pacific

Chinese OOB/TOE
< Previous Contents Next >

The Chinese OOB was revised in version 1.03 of CHS. This has been done in conjunction with version 4 of Andrew Brown's WitP map. Some of the changes are outlined here.

These changes were predicated by research I had conducted that indicated the position of a number of Chinese units were incorrect.

OOB Overview:

Previous Chinese OOB:

  • 73 Corps
  • 1 Tank regiment
  • 18 divisions

Chinese OOB Changes:

  • Added 22 Corps
  • Added 3 Guerilla Corps
  • Added 19 Field Artillery Regiments
  • Converted 12 Corps to Guerilla "Corps"
  • Converted 1 Div to Guerilla "Corps"
  • Converted Tank Regt to Infantry Corps
  • Converted 1 division to Field Artillery Regiment
  • Converted 2 divisions to Infantry Corps

New Chinese OOB:

  • 86 Corps (22 static)
  • 20 FA Regt
  • 14 Divisions
  • 16 Guerilla "Corps"

Chinese Infantry Corps:

  1. There are 86 Chinese Infantry Corps, 15 of these are static.
  2. Nominal starting strength of 334 squads, 24 37mm AT Guns, 24 81mm Mortars, 6 75mm Guns, 24 Engineers and 301 Support.
  3. TO & E: 382 Squads, 24 37mm AT guns, 24 81 mm Mortars, 6 75 mm guns 24 Engineers, 341 support.
  4. Each of these corps is from 5 to 35% disabled.
  5. The starting Exp and Morale averages around 41.7.
  6. The static corps were created by adding 5 devices labeled "fortifitication".

The "standard" Chinese Division TO & E would have called for 10,923 men, 3821 rifles, 16 howitzers and 30 Regimental/Battalion guns. Only 10 Chinese Divisions were so equipped and were destroyed during the Battle of Nanking. In practice Chinese Divisions were roughly 50% of this number. Most Chinese corps consisted of between 2 and 3 divisions.

Chinese Cavalry Corps:

  1. There are 4 Chinese Cavalry corps. 3 start in Lanchow and 1 is a reinforcement.
  2. The three in Lanchow have morale 70 and exp 60. These represent the elite Muslim Cavalry present in the North-Western Armies 8th War area.
  3. The Artillery component of the Cavalry corps have been reduced from 12 to 4 at full strength.

Chinese Field Artillery Regiments:

  1. There are 20 Chinese field Artillery regiments.
  2. TO & E: 24 75mm guns and 20 support.
  3. All 20 start in Chungking, 10 are static (Chiang maintained an artillery park that he would dole out pieces from as he deemed appropriate).

Chinese Armor:

The Chinese Armor Unit has been eliminated in exchange for the artillery units.

Chinese Guerilla Corps:

  1. There are 14 Chinese Guerilla "Corps".
  2. Nominal starting strength of 40 squads, 6 81 mm mortars, 30 support.
  3. TO & E: 100 squads, 9 mortars, 75 support.
  4. These units are positioned just off of the transportation net throughout Northern China.
  5. These units can be divided into thirds.

Chinese Infantry Divisions:

  1. There are 14 Chinese Infantry divisions.
  2. 3 Divisions are designated as Communist, positioned in Yenen and are static.
  3. TO & E: 186 squads, 12 37 mm AT guns, 12 81 mm Mortars, 4 75 mm Guns, 12 Engineers, 167 Support.
  4. The Artillery component of the divisions has been reduced from 12 to 4 guns.

Chinese HQs:

  1. There are 36 Chinese HQs, 24 of which are corps level Group HQ spread across China.
  2. All of the Chinese command HQ';s have been made static with the exception of NCAC in Tsuyung.
  3. The China Command HQ, NCAC and Red Chinese HQ have had there ranges reduced to 5, 2, and 1 respectively. Y-Force HQ has had their range increased to 2.

X-Force:

  1. The Chinese units in India should probably have there own TO & E.
  2. I have one TO & E slot available to do this.

30 Divison plan:

I ignored this. The divisions were only finally organized very late in the war. 11 divisions of the 30 had received 13 weeks of training by July of 1945.

Chinese Bases:

  1. The Chinese bases listed in the table below have been modified by adding Daily Supply and reducing HI and Resources and redistributing those assets amongst the bases listed. The pattern of distribution was based upon the actual distribution of capital and resources amongst the Chinese provinces during the war.
  2. Chungking, Yenen, Sian and Changsha have all had there initial fort level increased to 6.
  3. Ichang starts as Japanese. The Japanese captured Ichang in June of 1940.
  4. Wenchow starts as Chinese. The Japanese did not occupy Wenchow until July of 1942.
