Bordered by Morley Drive, Beckworth Avenue and Bottlebrush Drive, the Kiara TAFE site is a 14 hectare bushland block in the heart of high density housing.

Originally designated for a TAFE college, this parcel of land was sold to Homeswest with the view to developing it into small housing blocks.

Despite 10 years of community opinion opposing this development, Homeswest still intend to develop and build. They have offered a compromise of retaining 30% bushland—

but this is still not what locals want…. 100% retained as managed bushland park.

TAFE Bushland

Although not considered ‘pristine’, this woodland block contains over 150 species of native plants including banskias, Marri, Christmas trees…. Plus the unusual native foxglove Pityrodia bartingii or Woolly Dragon. This plant occurs rarely in the metropolitan region—only six other sites are known in Perth.

This site also acts as a vital coridoor link for thousands of birds and is home to a variety of lizards and frogs.
