Types of Installation:An installation utility is provided with the map package, which can be used to automatically install the map. Note, however, due to my inadequate batch file programming skills, that the installation utility does NOT work when using the operating system Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Millenium Edition. If using one of these operating systems then the map must be installed manually (see below). The map is not compatible with the official game map or the official scenarios, therefore the official game map and data files need to be backed up prior to loading this map, so that they can be restored if the map is removed, or if the user wishes to switch between the official map and my map. If using the installation file to install this map the backup of the official map files should performed automatically. Note:If you have already installed an earlier version of my map, then there should already be a backup of the official map. You do not need to make another one. I have tested the automatic installation procedure on my PC and it works fine, but that is no guarantee that it will work in all cases. If you have ANY problem with the installation procedure, please let me know by sending me a message in the Matrix Games Forums (to Andrew Brown). Automatic Installation:The map package comes with a batch file that can be used to install the game. This installation utility does NOT work when using the operating system Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Millenium Edition. If not using one of these operating systems, then the map should be installed using the installation utility, as it ensures that a proper backup is made of the official game maps and map data file. To install the map using the installation utility, do the following:
Manual Installation:Scenarios:Note that the ONLY scenarios that can be used with this map are those that have been specifically modified. There are no scenarios provided with the map package as there were in the past. This is because it was too difficult to continually update the very large map package every time a scenario was updated. Specially modified or created scenarios are available for the map from the scenarios web page at my War in the Pacific web site: www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp/scenarios.htmlScenarios that are available include a number of converted official scenarios, inclusing converted versions of the campaign scenarios 15 and 16. In addition there are some player modified scenarios available, including the Combined Historic Scenario (CHS). If a previous version is already installed:If a previous version of the map is already installed, then the installation script will still work. After the new version of the map is installed the map should be loaded, either during the installation, or afterwards, using the load utility ("ModSelect.bat"). It will then be ready to be used in the game. Switching between the official and modded maps:A batch file utility is supplied to make it easy to switch between the modded and official maps. To make the switch, ensure that the game is not running. Then, in the folder where War in the Pacific is installed, locate and run, by double-clicking on it, the file "ModSelect" ("ModSelect.bat"). This utility allows the user to load either the modified map or the official map. |
