Andrew's War in the Pacific Map version 6.2 - Soviet Union

Map changes:

A number of new bases have been added to the Soviet Union as follows:

  • Krasnoyarsk: This base is at the top of the map, on the Trans Siberian railway. The base takes over from Irkutsk as the main source of supplies for the Soviet Union.
  • Abakan: A base near the Western border of Mongolia.
  • Sovetskaya Gavan: A port opposite the island of Sakhalin.
  • Nikolaevsk: A port at the mouth of the Amur River.
  • Magadan: A port on the Sea of Okhotsk. Part of the Alaska-Siberia lend lease air route.
  • Uel Kal: A small base near the Eastern tip of Siberia. Part of the Alaska-Siberia lend lease air route.

Because the new bases of Magadan and Uel Kal are isolated, and the Soviet Union has no navy or transport fleet, I have added small daily supply values to these bases to simulate the shipping of supplies to the bases.

An oil pipeline had been added between the bases of Nikolaevsk and Komsomolsk. This pipeline, represented in the map data as a road, will transport oil points that are created in the base of Okha on Sakhalin Island, and then moved automatically to Nikolaevsk. These oil points can then be used by the Soviet Heavy Industry centres.

Besides the new bases, the base of Uglahamensk has been changed to the base of Nahkodka, a port near Vladivostok.

Customised Scenario data changes:

n addition to the new bases, a few new units have also been added, mainly as garrison forces for the new bases. See the Unit Modifications page for more details.

Finally, all Soviet LCUs in base hexes have 100% preparation for their base.

Soviet entry house rule:

There was one major problem with mapping the Soviet Union area - the hexes that are under Soviet control are "hard wired" into the game. This is very important as entry into a Soviet hex by Japanese ground units is the way that Soviet entry into the war is triggered. Because my Soviet border is not the same as the one on the official map, there are some areas on my map that are shown as being part of the Soviet Union, but are not Soviet hexes as far as the game is concerned. This means that if a Japanese unit enters one of these hexes it will NOT trigger Soviet entry. For this reason players should use the following house rule when using my map:

If playing as the Japanese vs. the AI or a PBEM opponent, then if the player decides to attack the Soviet Union (including the base of Urumchi in Western China), they should ensure that the first, or equal first, hex they enter is hex 65,32 (this hex is easy to enter, using the railway from hex 64,31). This will ensure that Soviet Union entry is properly triggered.
