Andrew's War in the Pacific Map version 6.2 - Australia and New Zealand

Map changes:

The transport infrastructure of Australia has been modified to make it more realistic. The nonexistent railway circling the continent is gone, to be replaced by the railways and roads that actually existed at the time. This affects Darwin and the nearby Northern Australian bases most of all, as it will now be more difficult to move troops and supplies to these bases without the use of sea transport.

A number of new bases have been added to Australia and New Zealand. Some of these, such as Katherine and Kalgoorlie in Australia, and Gisborne in new Zealand, have been added because these areas are subject to "attention" by the Japanese, including the possibility of invasion, so there needs to be a few more bases in these low base density areas to provide a more realistic simulation.

The bases that have been added are as follows:

  • Albany: A good port on the South coast of Western Australia.
  • Port Kembla: A location for an amount of resources and heavy industry, just South of Sydney. The points are taken from the Sydney totals.
  • Geraldton: A port to the North of Perth, in Western Australia.
  • Daly Waters: A potential airfield inland from Darwin, representing the large number of airfields built in this area during the war.
  • Katherine: Between Daly Waters and Darwin. Also representing the large number of airfields built here.
  • Tennant Creek: A potential airfield between Darwin and Alice Springs. There is nothing important here but it provides a stepping stone when moving to/from Darwin and the rest of Australia.
  • Kalgoorlie: A potential airfield East of Perth.
  • Cloncurry: An airfield that forms part of the air route between Brisbane and Darwin. This are was also rich in resources, so some of the Australian resource points are relocated here.
  • Charleville: An airfield that forms part of the air route between Brisbane and Darwin.
  • Coen: A potential airfield to the North of Cooktown, representing airfields that were built in this area during the war.
  • Broken Hill: A major resource centre to the West of Sydney.
  • Albury: An inland location between Melbourne and Sydney. Also represents the nearby town of Tocumwal, which was used as a major airbase during the war.
  • Exmouth: A small, isolated port in North Western Australia used for the basing of submarines during the war.
  • Portland Roads: A dot base on the far Northeast coast in a location that was developed as an airfield and small port.
  • Hamilton: A large town and airfield in Central New Zealand.
  • Gisborne: A small port on the East coast of the North island of New Zealand.
  • Picton: A small port on the Northern tip of the South island of New Zealand, opposite Wellington.

Customised Scenario data changes:

A large number of bases in Autralia have modified resource, heavy industry, manpower and oil values. The oil centres in Australia are now Sydney, the centre of Australia's shale oil industry, Perth and Melbourne. The Perth and Melbourne centres are not oil producing, they are locations that receive daily oil and fuel. This represents the shipping of oil to Autralia from the Middle East, and ceases if the bases are captured by the Japanese.

Auckland in New Zealand produces a small amount of daily supply, helping NZ to be more self-sufficient (it did not depend on overseas aid to feed its home defence forces).

Some of the fortification levels of the Australian bases are also reduced to more realistic levels. In addition, some new Coastal Defence land units are added, in existing bases that actually had them, plus in some of the new bases.

Base changes - Australia and New Zealand:

The new port and airfield size/SPS values are applied in customised scenarios.
