War in the Pacific Official Map Data Fix

This mod is now at version 2.

This mod includes a modified map data file for use with the official War in the Pacific map. It is a successor to my LCU Movement Mod map data files, which were eventually incorporated into the official War in the Pacific game as of patch version 1.6. The mod is compatible with the official game map, and for any version of the game from patch level 1.6 or higher.

This mod has been created because a few map data errors have been found since the last version of my LCU Movement Mod map data was created, and incorporated into the official game. These errors are corrected in this map data file.

It is not necessary to start a new game to get the benifits of this mod.

Note: This mod should NOT be used for PBEM play unless BOTH players use it. Furthermore, both players must use the SAME map data file from the different choices I make available in this mod.

Also note: If you are using my WitP map (alternative game map), then this mod is NOT REQUIRED. In fact it must NOT be installed together with my map as they are NOT COMPATIBLE. This mod is for use with the official game map only, or Subchaser's version of the official map.

This mod is available for download:

Official Map Data Fix, version 1 Official Map Data Fix, version 2 (79 KB)

The mod does not (yet) come with an installer, so it must be installed manually.

Note: It is very important to read the included readme file before installing or using this mod. The original map data file (pwhex.dat) MUST be backed up before installing my mod, or the file will be overwritten. If this happens the game may need to be reinstalled to get the original file back.

In version 2 of this mod, the following changes have been made:

  • The hexside between hexes 28,39 and 29,40 (Bangkok) has been changed to river to match the map art.

In version 1 of this mod, the following changes have been made:

  • Hex 111,68 - immediately to the West of Pearl Harbor - changed from Coastal forest to Deep ocean to match the map art.

  • The transport link type in hexes 25,57 (Singkawang) and 25,58 (Pontianak) in Borneo changed from trail to road to match the map art.

  • Road link added between hexes 44,49 (Vigan) and 45,50 on Luzon to match the map art.

  • The hexside between hexes 34,79 and 35,79 changed from land to ocean. This was probably a hangover from an older version of the map that had an island in one of these hexes (a remnant of this "island" is still visible on the map).
