Squadrons on the following US CVs that arrived equipped with SBD-3 have been changed to arrive with SBD-5: Essex, Bunker Hill, Intrepid, Hancock, Prince William, Casablanca.
A large number of Japanese ship, ship class, airgroup and LCU names have had their spelling revised and/or corrected.
Duplicate US Navy ship "Cold Brook" removed.
The US Balao class submarines now arrive with SD radar. Also,
the Balao class upgrade had duplicated SJ radar - fixed.
Submarine air-search radar effectiveness has again been reduced slightly.
For the experimental versions of CHS - scenarios 159 and 160 - the Japanese Zero factories for the A6M2, A6M3, A6M5 and A6M8 were not swapped along with the aircraft slots themselves, resulting in an overproduction of A6M2 and underproduction of A6M3. This has now been fixed.
The AA effectiveness increase in the experimental versions of CHS, designed to compensate for increased aircraft durability, has been decreased slightly.
Changes to aircraft combat/AA added to the "Nik Mod" version 8.0 update have been added to the "Nik Mod" style scenario variants - scenarios 157 and 158.
Aden now has 100 Heavy Industry, as well as 500 more HI that are disabled, and 400 disabled oil centres. This means that initially the Allied player can ship resources to Aden to generate additional supplies. As the game progresses, if the disabled centres are rebuilt, more resources can be handled, and more oil will also be available to ship to India, where it can be used to generate further additional supplies as well (by being used to run Indian HI). This represents increasing availability of supplies, both transported from elsewhere and generated locally in India, as the war progresses.
Batavia no longer has oil. The number of oil centres in Palembang and Balikpapan have been increased.
The "Canada" Base Force had a 9999 delay value, so that it would never appear. Fixed.
The 8th PAF Base Force was equipped with an SC radar, which made it static. Device changed to Sound Detector (A).

Konan had dupliucated resource centres (20). Fixed.
The "experimental" scenario variant had many aircraft with a missing weapon (gun, bomb or torpedo). Fixed.
The "experimental" scenario variant now has more additional durability added to fighters (including fighter-bombers, night fighters and float-fighters) than to non-fighters.

Replacement carriers for sunk US Navy carriers will still be Essex class.
All Japanese cruisers which belonged to classes that had their turret armour reduced to 25mm in a previous update, did not have their data updated (due to not refreshing the ship data). This has now been done.
Type STS Japanese submarines had duplicated Type 22 radar. Fixed.
Tench Class US submarines had duplicated Type SJ radar. Fixed.
Japanese DD Hatsuharu 9/43 upgrade had duplicated Type 22 radar. Fixed.
AA Weapon facing error corrected for Japanese Hosho ship class (Hosho ship data already correct).
Weapon facing errors corrected for Japanese BB Musashi.
All Japanese Wakatake class DDs now have correct torpedo reloads - 1 instead of 8. The ship class data was already corrected.
Secondary (25mm) armament numbers corrected for all Japanese "Type D Escort" and "Type C Escort" ships.
Weapon armour data for Japanese Idzumo ship class was incorrect (the ship data was all OK). Fixed.
British Q-Ships now have reasonable crew experience (50 day/40 night).
Very minor errors corrected in weapon data for several transport ship classes.
Device "3in Mortar" production increased from 14 to 36.
Some submarine radar devices - Snorkel, SD radar, SV radar - have had their "Effect" ratings decreased slightly.
Calcutta is now a size 6 port, and Diamond Harbour is smaller. The repair shipyard at Diamond Harbour has also been moved to Calcutta. Also, all ship reinforcements formerly arriving at Diamond Harbour now arrive at Calcutta. During the war Calcutta was one of India's largest civil ports, and Diamond Harbour was just an anchorage.
Port Alice renamed to Coal Harbour.
Baguio and Lucena in the Philippines have been changed from "Philippines" to "US Army" nationality.
Magwe and Ramree Island in Burma changed from Indian to Commonwealth nationality.
In the LCU target cleanup done for CHS 2.02, Allied LCUs that had planning values greater than 0, but had no target set, had their planning values set to 0. This was mistaken, however, as the program defaults to "own base" if the planning target for an LCU is not set. This meant that some Allied mobile LCUs in the Philippines, Malaya and the DEI did not have their proper planning values and targets set. This has now been corrected.
All Dutch coastal gun regiments and garrison units in the DEI now have planning targets set to their own base, and planning values of 25. Previously, some of these LCUs had 50 planning points for their own base, and the others had 0.
33rd Japanese Division planning target changed from Rahaeng (already Japanese controlled) to Rangoon.
The Tribal class DD HMAS Bataan added to the scenario in CHS 2.00 has been removed, as it is already in the CHS database (ship 3714).
Daily fuel, oil and supply levels of Aden adjusted to more correct levels.
Luganville, Efate, Davao and several bases on the US mainland had some errors in their base or SPS values. Fixed.
The "Mongolian Cavalry Division" is now assigned to Kwantung Army, as the numbered Mongolian Cavalry divisions already are.
The Japanese Mongol Army HQ, arriving 440701, is now also assigned to Kwantung Army.
All LCUs assigned to ABDA command, and all LCUs in Malaya, have had their starting morale values reduced by 5.
The Philippine 93rd Reserve Regiment had Changsha as its planning target. Fixed.
The availability date of the Spitfire Vb is now 1/43 instead of 6/42, and its build rate has been decreased from 40 to 30.
The production rate of the Spitfire VIII has been increased from 40 to 50.
The G4M2 Betty aircraft is now using the correct bitmap number (28 instead of 76).
The 431st, 432nd and 433rd US Army fighter squadrons now appear as reinforcements in Brisbane on 430701, and with only 2 aircraft (P-38G) per squadron. The starting experience of these squadrons has also been increased from 55 to 65.
No.607 Squadron RAF added, arriving at Aden on 420615, equpped with Hurricane IIb aircraft.
The availability date of the SB2C Helldiver is now 8/43 instead of 1/43. Although it was first assigned to squadrons in early 1943 there were problems with thei aircraft and delays in their deployment. The production rate has been increased from 200 to 240 to compensate for this later availability.
HMAS Kanimbla (6640) was mis-spelled "Kanimba". Fixed.
The "United States" base had too many Heavy Industry points -
10,000 instead of 1,000. Fixed.
Aden did not have the resources and oil centres, and additional
daily fuel and supplies, that were removed when the Middle East base
was removed. That had now been fixed - Aden now has the combined oil.
resources, fuel and supplies from the former Aden and Middle East bases.
Many Chinese LCUs had incorrect planning targets. Some Soviet LCUs and a few other Allied LCUs were also affected. All Allied LCUs have now had their planning targets set correctly (this was a product of the same WitP editor "effect" that also affected some Japanese LCUs, which was already corrected).
The following LCUs have had their Arrival dates changed to 0 (were in the range 411201 to 411207):

The "2nd Marine Para" LCU has had its arrival date changed from
411208 to 411209, so that it will arrive on map.
A number of Soviet ships had incorrect arrival dates in both the
"Soviet Fleet" and "No Soviet Fleet" scenarios. All have now been fixed.
The Liberator VI endurance is now the same as the B-24J - 835.
All Mongol Cavalry divisions are now assigned to Kwantung Army
instead of Chinese Expeditionary Army.
Large numbers of disabled resource centres and oil centres, as
well
as large numbers of additional Heavy Industry centres (which are not
disabled, but will not create additional output until the disabled
resource and oil centres are repaired) have
been added to most of the bases in the mainland United States. These
disabled centres can be repaired during the course of the scenario,
resulting in
gradually increasing amounts of supplies and fuel being generated for
the United
States as the scenario progresses.
There is more than sufficient time in the scenario for all of the
supplies expended to
repair the facilities to be replaced, so the Allied player will gain
more supplies from repairing the centres than if they leave them
disabled.
The numbers and locations of the disabled resource/oil centres is as

When all these centres are repaired - a process that will take
about two years - the additional output will be 6,140 fuel points and
11,565 supply points per day.
The amount of excess resources generated in Australia have been
reduced, to ensure that the Allied player does not simply ship these
excess resources to the USA rather than repair the disabled resource
centres located there. Supply produvtion levels in Australia are
retained, however, by locating daily supply output at major Australian
bases.
The US command HQs South Pacific and Southwest Pacific now
arrive as reinforcements on 420420 and 411122 respectively. All on-map
air groups belonging to these two HQs have been reallocated to Central
Pacific HQ. All on-map LCUs, and LCU reinforcements arriving before the
HQs themselves, that belong to these two HQs have been reallocated to
Central Pacific HQ, and set to switch to the South Pacific or Southwest
Pacific HQ after it arrives. In addition the bases formerly assigned to
the South Pacific HQ have been reassigned to Central Pacific.
To compensate for the Political Points required to properly set up the
command areas of these two HQs after they arrive on map, the Allied
player has been given a number of additional PPs at the scenario start.
Although the Allied player could spend some or all of these PPs on
other things, that would result in a reduced ability to operate
effectively (i.e. within a HQ radius) in the Pacific.
Because of the increased flexibility this provides the Allied player,
the number of additional PPs given to the Allied player are fewer than
the number required to restore the air group, LCU and base HQ
allocations for the South Pacific and Southwest Pacific HQs.
High ranking US Army leaders (Generals) have been revised. Those
that did
not exist, or were not in the Pacific theatre, have been removed, and a
few new leaders have been added. In addition, several leaders have had
their ratings revised to more accurately reflect their real life
performance.
Several RAF leaders have now been added to the scenario.
The Japanese land OOB and TO&E has been extensively revised to make it more accurate. Please see the scenario documentation for details.

New units are highlighted in green. All units arrive in San Francisco.
All of the infantry divisions, including the British and
Canadian
units, have US Army equipment in their TO&E, as per US Army
divisions, except squads. The 3rd British Division uses late war
British squads; the 6th Canadian Division uses British and US squads as
there is only one type of (early war) Canadian squad.
The Australian 9th AIF Division now arrives as a reinforcement
at Perth.

TO&E |
---|---|
Heavy AA (HAA) Regiment |
Three batteries of 8 x 3.7in
AA guns each |
Light AA (LAA) Regiment |
Three batteries of 18 x 40mm Bofors guns each |
As part of this reworking of the British AA units, the three existing independent British AA units have been removed from the game:
48th Light AA Regiment (Kota Bharu)Penang Fort and ther ISF base forces, in Malaya, retains the same AA armament as in the official scenario.
In addition, to represent the numbers of AA guns present in Malaya at the start of the war, and the fact that reinforcement AA units were subsequently shipped there as reinforcements, the LAA batteries represented in the base forces all start at half strength.
Several Allied CD units have been combined when there were more
of them in one location. This was done partly to free up a number of
LCU slots. In addition some others, as well as several base forces,
have been renamed and/or had their
TO&Es modified, and one (Fort Hayden) has been added. The affected

UNIT |
The Japanese NLF units had their LCU formation entry (slot 932)
cleared by mistake, so that it was completely empty. Fixed.
Australian CD units with faulty planning targets have been fixed.
The load cost of Aviation Support has been increased from 10 to 20, to make it the same as the load cost of all other support type devices.
The build rate of the USMC Engineer Squad (device 330) has been restored from 11 to 21.
The Vickers Mark VI tank (slot 481) was defined as an aircraft
gun. Fixed.
The late war Dutch LCUs now contain late war Dutch Rifle squads and engineer squads.
All "Squad" type devices now have a two-digit year abbreviation added to the end of their description, making it easier to identify the type of squads making up a unit. The year corresponds to the year that the squad type becomes available (with all starting squads using "41", but all other squads that first appear in December using the following year).
All ASW weapons have had their Range, Effect and Accuracy ratings - all previously halved - returned to normal. The halving was originally done to reduce the effectiveness of ASW attacks, but this has been addressed in the game code since the 1.7x patches.
The Commonwealth rifle squad device now updates to a newer Commonwealth rifle squad, rather than to an Indian light squad.
All large CD gun devices have been relocated in the device table, to a slot range in the 540+ area. This frees up device slots in both the Japanese and the Allied parts of the device database.
All unarmoured ships that previously had 5mm of deck and belt
armour added, such as AKs, TKs, most DDs etc, have had that armour
removed.
The following new Japanese submarine class is available:
Type Yu*:US submarines now have air search radar available in refits. These radars are short ranged and should provide a modest increase in protection vs enemy aircraft. The two radar types added are:
SD Radar:British submarines now have air search radar available in refits. This radar is short ranged and should provide a modest increase in protection vs enemy aircraft. The radar types added are:
Type 291 Radar:The "Snorkel" device has been added for use by submarines, which
is represented as a limited effectiveness air search
radar. The Dutch O19
class submarine was fitted with a Snorkel, and it is also available for
some later Japanese submarines and submarine refits as follows:
It was originally intended that there would be TWO versions of
the Japanese ship Shinano - one a CV and one a BB, in the database, so
that the Japanese player could have a choice of whether to complete the
ship as a BB or
a
CV. It was decided, however, that this may be confusing to some
players, and it also meant that a separate "Japanese AI" version of the
scenario be created (to avoid the AI trying to build BOTH "Shinanos").
So players are now given a choice of how to use the Shinani in CHS, but
if they want the option to play with anything other than the Shinano
being completed as a CV, they must use the editor to set the scenario
up, as follows:
The default setting is that the Shinano is present as a CV.
To make the Shinano a BB instead of a CV:
The scenario can now be played with the Shinano appearing as a BB instead of a CV.
To allow the Japanese player to decide during the game whether to complete the Shinano as a BB or a CV:
The scenario can now be played with the Japanese player having a choice as to whether to complete the Shinano as a BB or a CV, as there are now TWO versions of the Shinano under construction. To make this work properly, the following house rule MUST be used:

The following Allied ships have been added. All of these ships were, in real life, named after ships that were sunk earlier in the war. These ships were actually present in the Pacific during the war, but were left out of the official scenario databases, presumably to avoid confusion due to a clash of names. Alternative names for these ships are used (names courtesy of Ron Saueracker):

The exceptions are the large US Navys of both the Japanese and the Allies, which are set at a capacity of 5000, so that they can still be converted to other ship types.

The RNZAF Corsair has also been added, which is the same as the
F4U-1D, but with its own aircraft art.
The following Allied aircraft have been modified as follows:
* These aircraft have had their build rates increased to allow for the filling out of the new groups and squadrons arriving from the ETO in 1945 (see above).
** F4U-1D rate decreased due to added separate build rate for
RNZAF Corsair.
*** A-26B production now entirely provided by factory conversions from
B-25J factories.
The F6F now carries a 150gal drop tank. This is an
"experimental" change added since it seems that drop tanks really do
work. Once more games have been played with defined drop tanks, more
may be added to CHS (some aircraft have range values that currently
assume the use of drop tanks, even though they are not specified).
Heavy bombers have had their "Max Load" values restored to equal
those in the official scenarios, as this value, according to the game
programmers, is not used for actual bomb load, but is used to calculate
the base size required to operate the aircraft.
The Lancaster bomber has been changed to the Mk I (FE) model,
which had its dorsal turret removed, and a longer range. The Mk I (FE)
was specifically designed
for service with "Tiger Force".
Some aircraft have had their default upgrade paths modified to
allow for more accurate squadon upgrades to be specified.
The Japanese float plane E14Y1 Glen has had its endurance decreased from 480 to 318, which reduces its maximum range to 3 hexes instead of 4.
US air groups VMF-111 and VMF-221 upgrade paths both set to F4F-4 Wildcat instead of F4U-1 Corsair, and F2A-3 Buffalo respectively.

Soviet bases have been revised, with changes to Manpower, Heavy
Industry, Resources and Oil. In addition, some following Soviet bases,
along the Manchukuo border, have had
their fort levels increased. This border was heavily fortified by the
Soviet Union before the war.

Oil should now be transferred from Okha to Nikolaevsk and thence
to the rest of the Soviet Union by a "pipeline" added between
Nikolaevsk and Komsomolsk. Taking into account these Soviet Daily Oil
supplies, there is enough
oil to supply about 50% of the Soviet on-map Heavy Industry. The other
50% capacity is considered to be supplied from, and have its output
shipped to, the European Soviet Union.
The Japanese also receive 100 Daily Oil at the
base of
Shikuka on Sakhalin, to represent the Okha oil concessions that they
extraced up until 1944. To take into account these changes, the size of
the Okha oil field has been considerably reduced.
The "Middle East" base has been removed. All air, sea and land
units that formerly were based at, or arrived at, that base now appear
at Aden. Aden is also now a source of daily oil and supplies for the
Allies.
Davao (43,61) has been changed from port size(SPS) of 2(2) to
4(2), and airfield SPS has been increased from 1 to 2. Davao was the
most significant port on Mindanao.
The bases of Sarmi (593) and Aru Island (565) have been swapped
in the database, so that Sarmi is now malarial and Aru Island is
not. This results in all bases in Papua New Guinea being malarial.
The base of Tsushima has been removed.
Several British bases in Burma have had their fort levels reduced to better simulate their lack of war preparation.
The following bases have been renamed:
Seoul (59,36) -> KeijoTarget Planning Objectives have been corrected for the Chinese LCU’s.
Auckland – 15 point Ship Repair yard added.
Deleted Ships 5427 and 5428. PT Q114 and PT Q115, Phillipine Off Shore Patrol PT Boats. Only THREE of these boats were completed:
Q 111 and Q 112 were slightly different prototypes built in Britain - 8 additional boats ordered were taken over by the British when war began in 1939.
Q 111 and Q 112 were slightly different prototypes built in Britain - 8 additional boats ordered were taken over by the British when war began in 1939.
Q 113 was then ordered as a prototype in the Philippines (to the same design as Q 112) and completed in October, 1941 Following the completion of Q 113, ten additional boats were ordered with expected completion in March, 1942. Plans were made for a follow-on order of 14 more. None of these vessels were ever completed.
Adjusted US Seabee units:
Previous Composition: Device 332:US Naval CB Squad -15; Device 251:Engineers – 15As to the SeaBees being combat capable - they were but that was not their primary mission. The Navy created the SeaBees for construction in forward areas. They were an extension of an old idea that was originally part of the "Advanced Base Force" from War Plan Orange. Early war experiences with civilian construction personel getting caught (or almost getting caught) in combat expedited the creation of the SeaBees. These were not specifically combat units but the personal were combat trained and well armed - similar to troops in the army General Service Engineering Regiments. SeaBees experienced some combat at Guadalcanal and some light engagements while constructing airfields, etc on some newly captured (and not quite secured) islands.
Removed Escalante R(ship 8565): It was is in fact a 110 Foot coastal craft of 95 GRT. It is listed as a Small AK in Scenario 15 and in CHS. It’s too small to mess and with should be removed.
Reclassified Kanlaon II (Ship 8573) is in fact a 181 Foot coastal craft of 477 GRT. It is listed as a Small AK in Scenario 15 and CHS. It should be reclassed as a coaster (class 451).
Reclassified Manatawny(ship 8123) is incorrectly classed as a Hog Island Type Freighter in CHS. It is classed as a large tanker in Scenario 15. Originally changed this ship to a freighter based on the appearance of it’s name in the list of Hog Island Freighters and reports that it’s cargo in the Philippines was dynamite. This was an error and is now correctly re-classed to a small tanker (class 391) as it was only 5030 tons.
Reclassified Ethel Edwards (ship 8426) is classed as a small AK in CHS and in Scenario 15. With a GRT of only 395 this ship should be reclassed as a coaster (class 451).
Reclassified Governor Wright (ship 8430) is classed as a small
AK in CHS and in Scenario 15. It was only 496 GRT and also should be a
coaster (451).
Corrected US 411 Bombardment group (#1232) to correctly have 12 aircraft instead of 21.
25th Gurkha Rifles and 1st Assam Rifles:
These formations are brigade-sized formations in CHS (108 infantry
squads etc.). Actually they were just battalions and should be reduced
in strength accordingly.
1st Assam Rifles was the 1st Battalion of the Assam Regiment and 25th Gurkha Rifles the 25th (garrison) regiment of the "Brigade of Gurkhas" (not part of one of the Gurkha regiments because the "Brigade of Gurkhas" was somewhat special because it did belong neither to the British Army nor to the Indian Army then; in most Indian regiments "25th" battalions were formed as garrison battalions for these regiments. 25th Gurkha Rifles and 1st Assam Rifles (IFIRK called "Assam Regiment" and not "Assam Rifles" then) acted as Army/Corps troops in Burma (25th Gurkha Rifles after returning from service at the NW frontier).

Updated us following US airgroups at Pearl Harbor: Set all
fighters and bombers with the exception of the 47th fighter Squadron to
training -10. The 47th was set at Escort - 40.
The 47th Pursuit Squadron was temporarily based at Haleiwa Field
although the pilots took their rest and recreation at Wheeler Field. On
7 December they had to return quickly in order to get airborne. The
47th provided the only really effective airborne resistance to the
Japanese that day.
Patrol Groups were set at Naval Search 10 percent. Kingfishers were also set at ASW.
Added Japanese Indian National Army Units in slots as follows:
Converted Japanese Leaders 1033, 1015, 682, 526 as follows:
When Singapore fell, the Japanese had captured 67,000 Indian
soldiers serving in the British army. Some 40,000 of the captives,
either willingly or under duress, joined the Indian National Army (or
Azad Hind Fauz), organized to liberate India from British rule.
Mistrust between the Indian military leaders and their Japanese patrons
prevented the effective organization of the INA until the charismatic
and respected Indian nationalist Netaji (“Great Leader”) Subhas Chandra
Bose reached Tokyo from Germany in May, 1943. Bose was one of the
pre-war leaders of the Indian independence movement. He opposed
Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violent resistance, (while, ironically,
admiring him enough to name a brigade after him) and fled India to
escape arrest by the British.
Bose overrode local Japanese military opposition by winning the
support of Field Marshall Count Terauchi, and the Japanese government
in Tokyo. The INA was subject to its own military justice – not Japan’s
– and Bose’s government was to administer any ‘liberated’ portions of
India. Japan transferred the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the Azad
Hind’s administration.
By December of 1943 the Japanese agreed that the INA was
well-enough trained and equipped to be committed to battle. In January,
headquarters and the First Division were shifted to Rangoon, and
brigades were sent forward to participate in the 1944 Arakan and Imphal
campaigns. The INA fought against the British advance in Burma until
the war’s end.
With Japan’s surrender, the British captured 23,000 INA
survivors. As Bose had died in a plane crash in the waning days of the
war, the British tried three of his subordinates for treason. To the
surprise of both the British and the pro-independence Indian Congress
party the “Red Fort” trials revealed mass support for the INA veterans
as Indian patriots. After many protests, a widespread mutiny within the
Royal Indian Navy, and a sit-down strike within the Air Force, the trio
were acquitted in 1946.
