The Combined Historical Scenario for War in the Pacific

CHS Installation: Using the ModSelect utility

If using the dual game installation, then once the map and art files have been installed - by running the "ModSelect" batch file utility - then that utility does not need to be used again; simply use the second installation of WitP to load and play the CHS scenario (you will still need to use the utility if you want to switch between the two versions of Andrew's map, however).

If using the single game installation, the "ModSelect" utility can be used to switch between the CHS map and art files, and the official map and art files. This is necessary if you are playing some games with the CHS map and art and other games with the official map and art.

To switch between the CHS map and art and the official map and art, or to switch between map variants (for example, between Andrew's standard and special maps), do the following:

  1. Exit from War in the Pacific:
Before using the "ModSelect" utility, ensure that War in the Pacific is not running.

  2. Run the "ModSelect" utility:
This utility is located in the folder where War in the Pacific is installed (The game is normally installed in the folder "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific" but it may be in another location if you chose to install the game elsewhere or you have two copies of the game installed).

Locate and run the "ModSelect" utility by double-clicking it, then select the map and art that you wish to use in the game from the list provided.

The necessary art files, map files and map data file will be loaded into the game ready for use.

Note:When the utility is run for the first time it will create a backup of the original art files, so that they can be restored later using the same "ModSelect" utility.

If you have older versions of Andrew Brown's map installed, then that map will also be available as an option in the ModSelect menu. This is in case you are still playing scenarios designed for, and started with, the older map versiom.

  3. Start the game and load the scenario:
After the selected art and map files have been loaded, start War in the Pacific and load the scenario for which you have selected the art in the previous step.

  4. Returning to the official map and/or game art:
If you want to return to, or start, a game using the official map and/or game art, you can run the ModSelect utility to reload the required map and/or art. As mentioned above, before using the "ModSelect" utility, you should first ensure that War in the Pacific is not running.
